Refuge de Chalance
The place
Unstaffed refuge managed by the Club Alpin Français de Gap, the highest refuge in the Valgaudemar, in the commune of La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar (Écrins massif, Champsaur-Valgaudemar). Sleeps 11 in a dormitory, with an exceptional panorama over the north face of the Sirac and surrounding peaks. No booking possible — first come first served. Equipment: sleeping bags, blankets, running water, dishes, cooking gear, heating. Pets allowed. A logbook is available at the trailhead. Camping permitted outside during periods of high occupancy. Getting there
Départ du parking du Rif du Sap (1407 m). Distance : 3 km. Dénivelé : environ +1200 m. Durée : environ 4h à la montée, 2h30 à la descente. Sentier facile. Accès hivernal/printanier alternatif depuis le parking du Casset (1144 m).
The setting
Situé dans le Parc national des Écrins, à 2550 m d'altitude, le plus haut refuge du Valgaudemar. Vue panoramique sur la face nord du Sirac, le pic Jocelme, le pic du Loup et les Bans.
