Richard's Cabin
The place
Public, non-electrified cabin operated by the Bureau of Land Management in the White Mountains National Recreation Area in Alaska (approx. 65°25'37" N, 146°58'35" W). Maximum capacity of eight people. Primitive log cabin: bunks, table, benches and kitchen counter; fireplace permitted. No running water or electricity. Dogs allowed. Booking mandatory via recreation.gov, check-in and check-out at 12 pm. Preferred winter access from Fairbanks: start at McKay Creek Trailhead (Steese Hwy mile 42) → 14 miles on the McKay Creek Trail → 6.5 miles on the Bear Creek Trail. Alternative summer access: U.S. Creek Road (mile 57) → 7 miles → Nome Creek Road → 11 miles → Bear Creek Trail 6.5 miles. Winter activities: snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing on the 250+ mile network of groomed trails. Very muddy access trail in summer, extremely difficult access.
