Refugio Huellas de Amistad
The place
Wild refuge set on the summit of Cerro El Vigilante, in the Curamalal range (partido de Saavedra, Buenos Aires province, Argentina), at about 700 m altitude. Built from the remains of an old grain silo torn apart by a storm, it was inaugurated on 4 September 2016 by Carlos Eckardt, who dreamed of it for ten years before building it in a single year. Since his father's death in 2019, the rancher has given up livestock farming to devote himself fully to adventure tourism. The refuge holds up to 20 people on sleeping mats (provided), with tables, a gas stove, a wood stove and solar-battery electricity. No cell signal or internet — phones become mere cameras. Access from the Estancia Cerro Áspero with prior payment of an entrance fee; final ascent 45-50 minutes.
