The place
Refuge known as "Joaquín Hardt" located at 1980 m east of the Cerro Cónico summit, in Chilean Patagonia (Aysén region). A high-altitude hut used as a base for climbing the Cerro Cónico and the neighboring peaks of the Cerro Castillo massif. Modest construction typical of free Andean refuges: bunks, stove, full self-sufficiency for water and food. Arid, windswept Patagonian setting, accessed by trail from the Carretera Austral / Villa Cerro Castillo area, a stage on the long traverses of the cordillera.
