Refuge de la Pilatte

The place

A hut in the southern Écrins massif, in Isère, in the municipality of Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans, at the foot of the Bans. Built in 1954 at 2,577 m of altitude, at the centre of a glacial cirque and at the foot of Mont Gioberney, it was permanently closed in 2021 due to ground movement linked to the accelerated melting of the Pilatte glacier, which caused cracks in the building. Access to the hut and to the area beyond the Says torrent is prohibited by municipal order.
