The place

The Refuge de La Chapelle de l'Isard is an unstaffed cabin at 1342 m elevation, located behind the chapel of the same name in the municipality of Antras in the Couserans (Ariège Pyrenees), at the foot of the Étang d'Araing and the Pic du Crabère. It has a table, electricity, a large fireplace, 6 bunk beds (3x2), 6 mattresses, 2 blankets, a spring in front of the door, firewood around and in the vestibule, games for children and a grill. Access from the Frechendech car park (Biros valley) towards the Refuge d'Araing (Jacques Husson, 1105 m), the Piches footbridge, then a clearing and 2 switchbacks before the refuge behind the chapel. The Notre-Dame des Neiges chapel, rebuilt in 1637, is a pilgrimage site on August 4-5.

From Frechendech (Biros valley) towards the Refuge d'Araing, the Piches footbridge then a clearing and 2 switchbacks.
