Cabane MacKeith
The place
Mountaineering hut managed by the Alaska Alpine Club (University of Alaska Fairbanks), perched at 1676 m on the upper Canwell Glacier in the Delta Range (Alaska Range). Serves as a base for climbing and ski-mountaineering expeditions in the area. Reached via about 12 miles (≈19 km) of skiing or hiking from the Richardson Highway, 140 miles south of Fairbanks. 4-5 miles upstream from the Lower Canwell Hut.
A bit of history
Originally named the "Upper Canwell Glacier Hut." Renamed MacKeith Hut after the death of club president Peter MacKeith during an ascent of Old Snowy in April 1980.
