Is. Conejo
The place
Small island in the province of Tierra del Fuego (Argentina), located about 120 km south-west of Río Grande and very close to Ushuaia, in the Beagle Channel. Coordinates 54°50′51″S 68°15′10″W, highest point at 11 m elevation. A rocky island battered by the wind and swell of the channel, occupied mainly by colonies of sea lions and seabirds (cormorants, Magellanic penguins in season). Visible from boat tours departing from the port of Ushuaia to the islands of the Beagle Channel and the Les Éclaireurs lighthouse. No permanent shelter or organized accommodation: the term "refuge" here refers more to a wild landing spot than a habitable structure.
Getting there
Approach by boat from the port of Ushuaia (Beagle Channel excursions). No facilities on land.
The setting
Beagle Channel, near Ushuaia, marine wildlife and pelagic birds.
