Eleazar's Cabin

The place

Public, non-electrified Bureau of Land Management cabin in the White Mountains National Recreation Area in Alaska (approx. 65°16'45" N, 147°52'33" W). Maximum capacity of eight people. Primitive accommodation: bunks, hearth for heating; no water or electricity. Dogs allowed, campfires permitted. Booking required via recreation.gov, check-in and check-out at 12 pm. Summer access: several miles off-trail through brushy terrain via the Summit Trail. Preferred winter access: snowmobile, snowshoes or skis via the recreation area's network of over 250 miles of groomed trails. ATVs prohibited from 1 May to 14 October. Approach: 11 miles via the Wickersham Creek Trail, then a 1-mile spur from the Steese/Elliott Highway north of Fairbanks.
