The place

Only the large porch can serve as shelter in a sudden storm — it does not allow you to reach the summit of the Ferion and the lookout shelter. The place is stunning, with its cedars and its chapel. A large Templar commandery once stood here; the spot is the setting for various legends and reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary according to local elders. The chapel was built in 1938. In 1988, the Delaballe forestry-fire track reached it. A great pilgrimage to Saint Michel takes place once a year. The Ferion is a legendary spot for everyone from Levens. The view is first-rate. Via Levens and the Delaballe track, via the Balma de Caisson, via the Col du Travail and the Baisse de Rosa — a moderate distance, good path. Via Coaraze and the forestry-fire track — a moderate distance, easy track. Via Duranus and the forestry-fire track and the Col Saint Michel — fairly long, easy track. Chapelle Saint Michel de Férion: a small rural chapel built in 1938 on the site of a Templar commandery. A magnificent and very rare avenue of cedars leads to it across a wooded plateau. The large porch can serve as shelter in a storm. The choir itself is kept locked.
