The place
Unstaffed hut set up in the former entrance casemate of the Fort de l'Olive, at 1950 m in the Briançonnais (Hautes-Alpes). The fort itself was built between 1881 and 1883 on the north flank of the Roche de l'Olive, as part of the Séré de Rivières system reinforcing the Briançon stronghold. Two rock-cut casemates for 75 mm guns were added between 1928 and 1935. The entrance casemate was renovated in 2015 and now serves as a hikers' shelter: windows, door, stove, table and benches all in good condition. Military heritage turned mountain refuge.
