The place
Alpine bivouac at 2831 m on the normal route of the Aiguille de la République, Envers des Aiguilles side (Mont Blanc, Chamonix). Rebuilt in 2021 on the site of the former refuge. Eight sleeping places on mattresses. Numbered panels showing availability (0 to 7).
Getting there
Access: Montenvers, crossing of the Mer de Glace, path to the Refuge de l'Envers des Aiguilles, about 2 h 30 from Montenvers. The access route is equipped with fixed ropes after a crevasse field, with climbing up to grade 6b. Not for everyone: jumar skills and rope handling required.
The setting
Envers des Aiguilles de Chamonix, Mont Blanc massif. Participatory management (rope and sanitation upkeep is the users' responsibility). Financial contributions collected by the Chamoniarde (OHM Chamonix).
