The place
A small unstaffed refuge recently opened at 1807 m on a promontory 50 m above the confluence of the Vernatar and Horcalh streams, in Val d'Aran (western Catalan Pyrenees). The hut is equipped with a table, two benches, a fireplace with a grate, four beds on a wooden mezzanine, and two brooms. Access from Pla de Beret towards Montgarri as far as Es de Cabau, then up along the arriu deth Horcalh to the hut. In good condition, a popular stop for hiking and cross-country skiing in the area.
