Borealis-LeFevre Cabin

The place

Public, non-electrified Bureau of Land Management cabin on the north bank of Beaver Creek, about 4 miles upstream of "Big Bend" in the White Mountains National Recreation Area, Alaska (approx. 65°23'6" N, 147°44'12" W). Maximum capacity of eight people. A primitive cabin: no electricity, no indoor plumbing, no removable bedding. Booking required via recreation.gov, check-in and check-out at noon. Dogs allowed, fires permitted. Winter access: 20 miles via the Wickersham Creek Trail. Summer access: 20 miles via the Summit Trail (foot only) or by river float. ATVs prohibited from 1 May to 14 October. Alert: the last 3 miles of the Summit Trail are overgrown with willow and alder, making the route very difficult to follow. Activities available in the million-acre recreation area include skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, river running, and wildlife viewing.
