Le lieu
Alfred Wainwright's classic 309km crossing of northern England from St Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea, passing through three national parks: the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. It combines high fell walking around Ennerdale, Grasmere and Kidsty Pike with the limestone dales of Swaledale and a long moorland finish over Blakey Ridge, where the isolated Lion Inn is one of the trail's few named overnight landmarks. Now recognised as an official National Trail, it remains one of Britain's most popular and best-documented long-distance walks.
