Annapurna Circuit (Besisahar → Nayapul)
Le lieu
The Annapurna Circuit is one of the world's great trekking routes: approximately 200 km circumnavigating the Annapurna massif in Nepal over 14–18 days, crossing the Thorong La pass (5 416 m) — the highest point of any major trekking route. From Besisahar (855 m) the trail climbs through sub-tropical forest, rice terraces, arid Tibetan-influenced highland (Manang, 3 500 m) and the high desert plateau before descending to Jomsom and the Kali Gandaki gorge. The diversity of landscapes, cultures and ethnic groups (Gurung, Magar, Manangi, Thakali) traversed in one circuit is extraordinary. Parts of the old route are now metalled road; trekkers use the high-level trail alternatives.
L’intérêt
Pisang and Upper Pisang with their medieval Tibetan-style monasteries. Manang village (3 500 m) and its dramatic mountain backdrop. Ice Lake viewpoint (4 600 m). Thorong La pass at dawn. Muktinath Temple (sacred to Hindus and Buddhists). Marpha apple orchards and distilleries. Tatopani hot springs at descent.
Un peu d'histoire
The Annapurna Conservation Area, established in 1986, is the most visited protected area in Nepal. The Circuit became famous in trekking literature in the 1980s, often cited as one of the 'classic' routes alongside the EBC trek. The construction of roads through Manang and Mustang in the 2000s has partly altered the experience, though the high trail remains roadless.
