Upper Lords Hunters Hut
The place
A 6-bunk hunting hut set inland along the Lords River, in Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island (Southland region, New Zealand). Owned and maintained by the Rakiura Hunter Camp Trust. Built in 2011 by members of the Southland NZ Deerstalkers' Association (John DeLury, Kerry Butson, Nigel Hodge, Neville Miller) and the West Coast branch (Mike DeLury, Hacky Sims). Facilities: 6 bunks with mattresses, heating, dry toilets, untreated tap water (boil before drinking). Booking and payment required via the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre in Oban. No DOC track access: transport must be arranged independently (typically by helicopter on Stewart Island), self-navigation with map/compass/GPS required. Intended for hunters who have booked the surrounding hunting block — remote, demanding terrain at the heart of New Zealand's wildest bush.
