The place
Historic A-frame cabin built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s, on the north side of Mount Hood in Oregon, at 1,737 m (5,700 ft). A 24x48 ft two-level building with a loft reached by ladder, about 300 m below the treeline. Capacity 20 people per night (minimum 2 per reservation). Managed by the Friends of Tilly Jane Cabins association (Mt Hood National Forest). Wood stove, picnic tables, pots for melting snow, dry toilets, firewood provided with tools. Bring sleeping bags, cooking gear and fuel. Summer access (July-October): 400 m from Tilly Jane Campground. Winter (November-June): 4.3 km on skis/snowshoes via the historic trail (580 m elevation gain). Dogs not allowed. Rate $20/person/night + $6 booking fee.
