South Pegasus Hunters Hut

The place

Basic 8-bunk hut owned by the Rakiura Hunter Camp Trust in Rakiura National Park, on Stewart Island/Rakiura at the south of New Zealand. Multi-fuel burners (bring dry wood), 1,000 L rainwater tank, mattresses, indoor and outdoor stainless-steel benches, pantry, toilet, axe and broom. No cooking utensils provided. Untreated water must be boiled. Backcountry hut with no DOC-marked access track — navigation self-sufficiency required. Flat rate NZ$30 per person for any stay up to 10 days, booking required through the Rakiura NP Visitor Centre.
