Sootip Cabin
The place
Backcountry access cabin at about 1360 m altitude at the end of a spur road branching off the Soo River FSR, slightly north of Whistler and southwest of Pemberton (British Columbia, Canada). The cabin serves as a parking and starting point for the Sootip Mountain hike, a demanding roughly 12 km route with 730 m of elevation gain to a scenic ridge in the Pacific Ranges. The approach to the trailhead requires a 4x4 or high-clearance vehicle: the Soo River FSR is largely flat and maintained, but the spur road climbs quickly over rocky, rutted terrain. A typical coastal forest setting of Tsuga heterophylla and Thuja plicata, near the treeline, in one of the wildest parts of Whistler's backcountry.
