The place

Basic hiking shelter in the Cederberg Mountains (Western Cape, South Africa), managed by CapeNature in the Cederberg Wilderness Area. The huts in the area serve only as shelter — no beds — and hikers can sleep under the stars, in nearby caves, or in tents. Simple stone construction with a partly weatherproof roof, working doors and a straw floor. The huts are not always weatherproof and should not be relied on as the only option in bad weather. An exceptional setting in the Cederberg fynbos desert, famous for its spectacular rock formations (Wolfberg, Tafelberg), San rock art and endemic flora. A hiking permit from CapeNature is compulsory (Cape Town office or Algeria office).

Getting there

CapeNature permit compulsory (Cape Town office or Algeria office). Access from the main Cederberg roads (Algeria, Kromrivier, Sanddrif).
