Built by members of the Ormea CAI section and inaugurated in 1977 as a single stone building, then expanded in 1985 with the addition of two further structures. In August 2017, the refuge was also dedicated to Ezio Arduino, president of the Ormea CAI section, who died in a mountain accident while at work.
