Rifugio Navonera "G. Simonetti"
The place
Alpine refuge in Piedmont (AGRAP) located at the Colle della Navonera (1432 m), at the junction of the Val Corsaglia and the Val Casotto (province of Cuneo). The building has a dramatic history: converted into a Guardia alla Frontiera (GAF) barracks during the Second World War, it became a partisan base after the armistice of 8 September 1943, then was destroyed on 23 November 1943 under an agreement between the German command and the partisans stationed in Val Casotto. Restored by the Alpini of the San Giovanni dei Govoni group from Mondovì, it was inaugurated on 28 August 2011 (work having started in 2006) and dedicated to the memory of General Giovanni Simonetti. Capacity for 40 people, a room accessible to people with disabilities, kitchen, dining room, three bedrooms. Accessible by car all the way to the refuge.
