The place

The Rifugio Ciampedìe is a staffed hut at 1,998 m elevation in the Dolomites (Val di Fassa, Trentino-Alto Adige), managed by the SAT (Società Alpinisti Tridentini, CAI section), municipality of Vigo di Fassa. Built in 1912 by the Leipzig section of the Deutsche und Österreichische Alpenverein, taken over by the SAT at the end of the First World War (archival photos from 1904 suggest an earlier structure). The name "Ciampedìe" derives from the Ladin "ciampedel" ("little field") but has locally taken on the poetic meaning of "Campo di Dio" ("Field of God"). Recognizable by its white and blue colors, located right at the exit of the Ciampedie cable car's arrival station. Stays open in winter with dining service.
