Rifugio Bolzano
The place
The Castle in the Mountains Rifugio Bolzano stands at 2,457 metres on the Sciliar plateau, an iconic mountain of South Tyrol. To hikers, this structure looks like a castle, surrounded by the mountain massifs of Sassolungo and Sassopiatto, Catinaccio and Latemar. Since 1976, the Gasser family has offered alpine sports enthusiasts a well-earned rest, a warm welcome and comfortable lodging in one of the finest refuges in South Tyrol. Until 1998 it was run by my parents, Hilde and Rudolf, and since 1999 Silvia and Harald — us — have run this business with passion, in the name of cleanliness, hospitality and, last but not least, good food and fresh ideas. Here, everything is steeped in the typical atmosphere of mountain refuges: no access roads (supplies come in by cable car and, if necessary, by helicopter) and a traditional setting with Stube rooms, simple yet extremely welcoming bedrooms and dormitories. To enjoy your well-earned rest, you will find 120 beds.
