Refuge du Requin

The place
FFCAM staffed refuge at 2,516 m on the legendary Vallée Blanche route, in the Mont-Blanc massif (Chamonix, Haute-Savoie). Staffed in summer season from 12 June, plus weekends in the shoulder seasons. Winter refuge open year-round (about 20 beds, blankets, small kitchen area with utensils; no running water in winter — managed snow-melt system, limited electricity). Winter passage fee of 10 €. Bring your own gas; carry out your rubbish.
Getting there
Accès estival depuis la gare du Montenvers (train à crémaillère depuis Chamonix, 1913 m) : descente par échelles sur la Mer de Glace, puis remontée du glacier (rive gauche) jusqu'aux dalles de l'Envers puis au glacier du Tacul, avant un passage équipé menant à l'éperon rocheux du refuge — compter environ 4h de marche, terrain glaciaire nécessitant crampons et piolet. En hiver, accès également possible depuis l'Aiguille du Midi (3842 m) par la Vallée Blanche à ski, sous réserve de conditions glaciaires favorables.
The setting
Le refuge se situe au pied de la Dent du Requin et de l'Aiguille du Plan, au cœur de sommets du massif du Mont-Blanc, avec un panorama depuis sa terrasse ensoleillée ; il est un point clé de l'itinéraire de la Vallée Blanche en hiver et un camp de base pour les courses environnantes en été.
