Refuge du Mont Jovet (Partie hiver)

The place

Winter section of the Refuge du Mont Jovet, at 2350 m in the commune of Bozel (Vanoise, Savoie). Installed in around 2016 about 200 m lower (80 m of elevation) than the summer refuge, which becomes inaccessible in winter due to snowdrifts blocking the entrance and an avalanche zone crossing the eastern slope. Capacity of 10 places on bunk beds. Equipment: table, benches, efficient "turbo" stove, firewood reserve, pot, broom. Bring: sleeping bag, cutlery, lighter, headlamps. Basin water shut off in October against freezing, a few springs upstream. Access from Bozel via the road then the Mont Jovet 4x4 track.
