The place
A hut perched on the shore of the Lac Blanc, in the Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve above Chamonix, at 2352 m, facing one of the most iconic views of the Mont Blanc massif. Capacity of 40 places (38 beds in dormitories with duvets and pillows). Staffed from late June to late September, no winter opening. Half-board mandatory — it books up very quickly, especially during school holidays. Access from the La Flégère cable car in about 1h45, or from the Index drag lift in about 1h15. Camping prohibited around the hut, water and toilets reserved for guests; swimming in the lake carries a €135 fine.
