Refuge du Grenairon
The place
Staffed refuge located in the Pays du Mont-Blanc, Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval sector (Haute-Savoie). Distinctive feature: offers geodesic dome tents for sleeping "with your head in the stars" and houses a goat farm. Restaurant and catering on site. Reopening planned for June 2026 after seasonal closure.
Getting there
Au départ du parking du pont de Nant Sec (896 m), deux itinéraires sont possibles, chacun comptant 3h30 de marche pour 1050 m de dénivelé positif : par le sentier des Gardes, ou par les chalets des Crépines. Depuis le parking du hameau de Passy (1000 m), compter 2h30 pour 900 m de dénivelé, via le sentier des Gardes. Cette étape est incontournable pour l'ascension du Mont Buet (3096 m).
The setting
Situé sur le versant du Mont Buet — qualifié de meilleur point de vue sur le Mont-Blanc — le refuge côtoie un alpage où une chèvrerie (La Ferme de Passy) fait paître son troupeau depuis 2014. Malgré l'altitude, le potager du refuge parvient à produire de la salade.
