Refuge du Grand Couloir (Pte Moucherolle)
The place
Unstaffed cabin at 2050 m in the Vercors (Isère), between the Petite Moucherolle and the Pas de la Balme. Concrete building split in two: the south section is closed and reserved for ski-lift maintenance staff, the north section is open to hikers from a terrace fitted with picnic tables and benches. Capacity for 6, 2 beds with mattresses in the mezzanine. Access takes 3 to 5 hours depending on the side (west or east). The cabin is sometimes unavailable during the peak ski season. No water in the area — bring your own supply.
Getting there
Il faut compter de 3 à 5h depuis la Petite Moucherolle ou le Pas de la Balme. Un accès en transport en commun est envisageable : bus depuis la gare SNCF de Grenoble jusqu'aux Hauts Plateaux.
The setting
Ce bâtiment récent, en béton et maçonnerie, se développe sur deux niveaux et peut accueillir 6 personnes ; il dispose d'un poêle à bois, de deux fenêtres orientées au nord, et d'une mezzanine accessible par une échelle métallique. Aucun point d'eau n'est disponible dans un rayon de 100 m, et il n'y a pas de toilettes.
