The place
Brand-new staffed refuge (opened January 19, 2025), eco-designed and self-sufficient for water and electricity, in the heart of the Cerces massif in the municipality of Le Monêtier-les-Bains, at 2,253 m. With capacity for 30 (dormitories of 5 to 7 people), it offers drinking water, dry toilets and food and drink service. Located at the crossroads of major routes (Tour des Cerces, Tour du Thabor, GR50/GR57), it is staffed year-round, summer and winter alike — with no unstaffed access in the shoulder seasons.
Getting there
From the Pont-de-l'Alpe, follow the GR50, passing the Roche Robert stopover, then join the GR57 and continue north (≈ 500 m of ascent). From the Chardonnet gîte d'étape, take the GR57 west and pass the Col du Chardonnet Sud (6.5 km, ≈ 500 m of ascent).
