Refuge des Agriers: A Haven of Peace in the Heart of Nature The Refuge des Agriers, located in the splendid Agriers massif, is a true place to unwind and relax in the heart of nature. Rebuilt after a fire in 2017, it was inaugurated in 2022, offering visitors a warm spot to rest and enjoy the natural surroundings. Location The Refuge des Agriers is accessible from the town of Eygurande (Corrèze), following the forest track leading to the Agriers massif. It is located near a pond, on the border of the Creuse and the Châteauvert forest. For visitors coming from the Creuse, access is only via footpaths and trails. Ownership This refuge is managed by the Groupement Syndical Forestier des Agriers. Address Town hall, 10, place de la Mairie, 19340 Eygurande. Amenities The Refuge des Agriers is equipped with 2 tables, a fireplace to be used with caution, toilets, and a water point for visitors' comfort. Blending into the Environment Designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding nature, the Refuge des Agriers offers a relaxing setting, with architecture respectful of the environment. Cost and Funding The rebuilding cost of the refuge came to 7.5 million euros, funded by the Fédération française des clubs alpins et de montagne, along with public and private partners. Availability and Booking The Refuge des Agriers is open from early June to late September. Online booking is required to enjoy this haven of peace in the heart of nature.
Getting there
Depuis le village d'Eygurande, suivre la direction du massif des Agriers puis une piste forestière jusqu'au refuge, situé près d'un étang. Accès plus difficile côté Creuse, uniquement par sentiers.
The setting
Cabane non gardée située près d'un étang, à la limite de la Creuse et de la forêt de Châteauvert, dans le massif forestier des Agriers (Combrailles, Massif Central), aujourd'hui géré par l'Office National des Forêts. Le massif comprend une table d'orientation au Puy du Vareyron et un arboretum de 60 essences.
A bit of history
Détruite par un incendie en 2017, la cabane a été reconstruite (fuste en rondins) et inaugurée en 2022, à l'initiative du Groupement Syndical Forestier des Agriers. Le massif forestier des Agriers (environ 600 hectares, point culminant au Puy du Vareyron à 915m) servait avant la Révolution française de pâturage à moutons.
