The place

Historic staffed refuge at 2138 m at the base of the Maladeta massif and Pico Aneto, in the Posets-Maladeta natural park (Aragon, Spain). Built in 1916 by the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya, recently renovated while preserving mountain heritage traditions. Capacity 92 beds, open year-round. Run by the Aragonese mountain federation, the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya and Benasque town hall. Specialised breakfast service for those climbing Aneto: shortens the approach to the summit by 50 minutes compared with starting from lower down.
