Refuge d'art de La Forest

The place

Former chapel of a hamlet abandoned in the early 20th century, at 950 m in the commune of Authon (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). Renovated to house a sculpture by land artist Andy Goldsworthy and a refuge. Inaugurated in 2008. On the ground floor, a room with a table and benches and a room housing the artwork. Upstairs via a staircase, a wide sleeping platform designed for 10 to 15 people. Booking required and key to collect free of charge from the Musée Gassendi in Digne against ID, after paying the museum entrance fee (€7.50) — which also grants access to the monumental work River of Earth and the rooms displaying the Art en Montagne collection. Part of the Refuges d'art circuit, a unique 150 km artistic trail combining contemporary art and hiking in the Haute-Provence Geopark.
