Refuge Barthélémy Baudino
The place
Small masonry shelter at 798 m in the Sainte-Victoire massif (Bouches-du-Rhône), used mainly as a base by climbers tackling the south-facing routes. Capacity of 8 places. Access forbidden from 1 July to 30 September (fire risk). Named after Barthélémy Baudino, a young Aix student who died in an accident on this spot. Nearly burned down in early 2014 due to a hiker's negligence. Renovated in 2015: fireplace replaced with a stove, roof overhauled, woodwork refreshed, new water tank and outdoor table installed. No water nearby but firewood available; sleeping platforms without mattresses. Natural south-facing terrace with a magnificent view over the Arc plain, Mont Aurélien and the Sainte-Baume.
