The place

お地蔵さん (Ojizō-san, "Venerable Jizō") on the island of Shikoku, Tokushima prefecture (Japan), at 27 m elevation. Small Buddhist wayside shrine dedicated to the bodhisattva Jizō (protector of travelers and children) on the Shikoku Buddhist pilgrimage (Ohenro, 88 temples, 1200 km on foot, a tradition dating to Kōbō Daishi in the 9th century). Subtropical area with camphor trees, sasanqua camellias and bamboo.
