Refuge de Plaisance

The place
A refuge of the Parc national de la Vanoise, in the commune of Champagny-en-Vanoise (Savoie), on the edge of the park's core zone, in the Vallaisonnay valley. The first chalet was built in 1968 by the park authorities to improve visitor facilities, followed by a second dormitory chalet in 1974; the latter was shifted several meters by an avalanche in 1999 and then put back on its foundations. In February 2020 the roof was torn off by the wind, and the refuge was expanded and renovated during summer 2022 (private room for the keepers, new bathrooms, water, sanitation and solar installations brought up to standard). This is a refuge at 2170 m, accessible only on foot from the Laisonnay d'en Bas car park (2 h, 600 m of elevation gain). The refuge consists of a dormitory chalet with 32 beds and a chalet housing the dining hall and the keepers' quarters. From the terrace you can spot marmots, ibex, chamois, eagles and bearded vultures, as well as a varied flora (arnica, gentians, forget-me-nots, rhododendrons).
Getting there
Départ du parking du Laisonnay-d'en-Bas (Champagny-en-Vanoise, 1560m). Sentier bien balisé qui grimpe en lacets le long de la cascade du Py (vues sur Champagny-le-Haut et la face nord de la Grande Casse), puis suit le couloir du Mollard jusqu'à un replat herbeux avant d'atteindre le vallon de Plaisance. Montée : 1h45-2h. Descente : 1h. Dénivelé : +600m. Distance aller-retour : 7km.

Situé dans le vallon de Plaisance (vallon de la Vallaisonnay), au cœur du Parc national de la Vanoise, sur la commune de Champagny-en-Vanoise. Faune possible aux abords : chamois, bouquetins, marmottes.

Le refuge est gardé par Julia (originaire du Vercors) et Pascal (du Nord Finistère, Bretagne), entourés d'une équipe de salariés, famille et amis. « La montagne nous offre le décor... À nous d'inventer l'histoire qui va avec ! » (Nicolas Helmbacher).
