Onslow Hut (Steffan Memorial Hut)

The place

The Steffan Memorial Hut, also known as Onslow Hut, at 1040 m in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park (Canterbury). A small, basic 4-bunk hut belonging to the South Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association. No DOC-marked track leads to it: visitors must navigate independently by map, compass or GPS. No booking, suggested contribution of NZD 5 per person per night left on site or via the NZDA South Canterbury website. Several unbridged waterways along the route, not to be crossed in flood.
