North Pegasus Hunters Hut

The place

8-bunk hunter hut on Stewart Island/Rakiura (Rakiura National Park, Southland), owned and managed by the Rakiura Hunter Camps Trust. Built in 2000 by members of the Stewart Island Lions Club with DOC funding. No DOC track access: independent navigation required (map, compass, GPS). Facilities: multi-fuel stoves (bring your own wood), 1,000 L water tank (boil water — rat contamination), mattresses, indoor and outdoor benches, food storage, toilet, basic tools (axe, saw, broom, shovel). No cooking utensils or stove provided. Rate NZ$30 per person for stays of up to 10 nights maximum.
