The place

Iconic alpine DOC hut at 1,810 m in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park (Canterbury). 28 places on sleeping platforms in separate rooms, solar lighting, gas hotplates, radio weather forecast at 6:45 pm. Toilets sometimes inaccessible in winter. Rates: adults $55, children $28, NZ Alpine Club members $40. Backcountry pass not valid. Booking required from 11 November to 30 April; outside season, first-come first-served via the visitor centre (same-day online booking until 8 pm). Prior check-in at the visitor centre required.
