Mason Bay Hut

The place

Standard 20-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Rakiura National Park, on Stewart Island/Rakiura (Southland, New Zealand). Rates until 30 June 2026: 10 NZD/night adult, 5 NZD youth (5-17 years), free under 5; payment by Standard Hut Ticket (blue adult, yellow youth) deposited in the honesty box or by annual Backcountry Hut Pass. No booking. Untreated tank water must be boiled before drinking (contamination from rats present on the island).
