The place

A basic 6-bunk hunting hut at 33 m in Glory Cove Scenic Reserve (Stewart Island, Southland, NZ), managed by the Rakiura Hunter Camps Trust. No DOC track: self-guided navigation with map/compass/GPS required. Multi-fuel stoves, a rainwater tank (1,000 L), mattresses, toilets. No cooking equipment provided. Flat fee of $30 per person (max 10 days). Untreated water must be boiled (rats present on the island). Booking required through the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre. Built by members of the Southland NZ Deerstalkers' Association (David Howden, Ray Phillips, John DeLury, David Brown, Doug Hamilton and Nathan Dawson), funded by the organisation.
