Liebig Hut

The place

A standard 6-bunk DOC hut in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park (Canterbury), at 996 m. Backcountry with no marked trail: self-reliant navigation (map, compass, GPS) is essential. Daily radio checks at 6:45 pm with weather forecasts and on-site instructions. Unbridged river crossings — assess water safety carefully and be prepared to wait. No bookings; pay with hut tickets or a Backcountry Hut Pass (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026).
