The place
Recent small unstaffed shelter, free access, located at 1,030 m altitude in Mandailles-Saint-Julien in the Monts du Cantal. Carefully built structure of about 3×3 m, perfectly insulated, with a table and chairs but no mattresses or beds — sleeping on the floor for about 6 people (4 comfortably) in a sleeping bag or on a sleeping mat. Fine view over the Jordanne valley (Puy Mary, Peyre-Arse, Griou). Access in 10 min from the village of Saint-Julien-de-Jordanne, which also has the nearest drinking water point (1 km, −130 m) and a mini-market open every day.
Getting there
Petite cabane non gardée située à environ 10 minutes de marche (env. 1,1 km) du village de Saint-Julien-de-Jordanne (Cantal), au départ de la boucle de l'Élancèze, à 1030 m d'altitude.
The setting
Cabane implantée dans la vallée de la Jordanne (Monts du Cantal, PNR des Volcans d'Auvergne), avec une belle vue sur le Puy Mary, Peyre Arse et le Griou. Un ruisseau coule à proximité et la forêt est accessible à environ 20 m, offrant du bois pour un feu extérieur. Une source d'eau potable se trouve à 200 m (direction Notre-Dame-des-Méringes) et un robinet au cimetière de Saint-Julien-de-Jordanne à environ 1 km.
