Кордон Димшиканский (Быстринский природный парк)
The place
Dimshikan outpost, one of the two ranger posts of the Bystrinsky Nature Park (along with the Ichinsky outpost), in Kamchatka Krai (Russian Far East). Located at 554 m, accessible from the village of Esso, the ecotourism capital of Kamchatka. The Dimshikan outpost is one of the most visited sites in the park, next to the road to Lake Ikar. One- or two-day tourist routes are offered from Esso: on foot, by car, on horseback, by bike, by snowmobile. Local legend: this is said to be where the "swift deer Dim-Chik, turned to stone" stands; every year, on 31 July, young women dance around the stone at sunset in memory of Dim-Chik and his love Kana, the spring bird. Bystrinsky Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the "Volcanoes of Kamchatka": volcanoes, glacial lakes, larch forests and preserved Itelmen and Even culture.
