The place

Basic 6-bunk hunters hut at 7 m in Rakiura National Park (Stewart Island, Southland, NZ), managed by the Rakiura Hunter Camp Trust. Multi-fuel stoves, 1,000 L rainwater tank, mattresses, benches, meat safe, toilets. No cooking equipment provided. Flat rate $30/person (max 10 days). Untreated water must be boiled (rats present on the island). Booking required via the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre. No DOC track: self-reliant map/compass/GPS navigation required.
