Huckleberry Hut
The place
Small log cabin at about 1,600 m in the valley below Midday and Cabin Peaks (Kootenay, British Columbia, Canada). Access via Porto Rico Road, 15 km south of Nelson on Highway 6. Capacity 4 people (summer and winter) in a dormitory: 2 narrow beds with no foam mattress, 2 people per bunk (head to foot). Folding table, wood stove, outhouse, 2-burner propane Coleman stove, propane Coleman lantern. Under a partnership agreement with the Kootenay Mountaineering Club. Built in the early 20th century to work a mining claim on Spotted Horse Creek, restored by the Kootenay section of the Alpine Club of Canada in 1963, with further work in 1985 and 1986.
