The place
Mountain refuge at 1830 m (DB 1862 m) on the Plaine des Chicots, commune of Saint-Denis, at the heart of La Réunion National Park. Also known as Gîte de la Roche Écrite. Capacity for 36 beds, mainly for hikers heading up to the Roche Écrite (2276 m) — one of the emblematic peaks of the north of the island. Official stage on the GR®R2 long-distance trail. Several access routes from Cap Noir / Dos d'Âne or Le Brûlé via Mamode Camp. Managed in coordination with the ONF — check trail conditions (particularly after cyclones, e.g. Garance) at https://www.onf.fr/vivre-la-foret/. Forest of endemic tamarind trees, frequent fog and unique wildlife of the Hauts.

GR®R2 stage 2 from Cap Noir, or Le Brûlé via Mamode Camp.
