The place

Small ground-floor room of a farmhouse at 1424 m in the Coulmes (Vercors, Isère), owned by the Isère departmental council, the rest of the building being reserved for livestock farmers. No beds or sleeping platforms: you sleep on the concrete slab. Equipment: a stove, two benches, a table, a broom. A sign states the farmhouse is to be used only as an emergency shelter. The farmhouse sits in the middle of a terraced meadow below the Banc de l'Ours ridge, under the Signal de Nave, above the Isère valley. Access from the Route des Ecouges via Le Rivet, from the Col de Montaud, or from Autrans via the Pas de Pierre Taillée or the Pas de Montbrand.
