The place

Standard 8-bunk DOC hut at 10 m in Rakiura National Park (Stewart Island, Southland, NZ). No booking: honesty box ticket or Backcountry Hut Pass (adults $10, youth $5, under-4s free). Water untreated, must be boiled before use. High rat presence on Stewart Island increases contamination risk. New fees effective 1 July 2026.
